Critical Trauma Patient Thanks East Brentwood First Responders During Annual Installation Dinner5/1/2015 "On June 1st, 2014, East Brentwood Fire Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident where a patient was thrown from an ATV. Within minutes, the ambulance and two chiefs were on scene. The ambulance’s crew worked quickly to stabilize the patient. They transported the unresponsive patient from the road into the ambulance where the quick actions of the crew aided in the patient’s recovery. While performing advanced life support and assisting the patient’s breathing Suffolk County Aviation was requested. The patient was rapidly transported to the nearest hospital where definitive care was established. This patient received the highest level of care by the members of the East Brentwood Fire Department and was discharged from the hospital to return to normal activities with her family. Today, April 11th, 2015, the chief’s office would like to thank the crew for their hard work and effort for saving the life of another." "On June 1st, 2014 I was in a tragic ATV accident. These firemen amongst others saved my life. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to these men and all other fireman who selflessly and courageously put their lives on the line everyday to help others. Although I do not have any memory of this accident, I will forever be grateful to these heroes of our community. Amongst the odds against me I did survive and although I know there were many others who contributed to my survival, I know it all started with these firemen. They not only saved my life but most importantly to me, my family. They saved my children the grief of losing a mother, my husband a wife, my parents a daughter and my siblings a sister and for that on behalf of myself and my family we sincerely thank you for your quick actions which allowed me to be here today to thank you and for all of the greatness you will continue to do. On March 2nd, at approximately 3:30pm, the East Brentwood Fire Department was activated for a Heavy Rescue at 1530 Express Drive South. First responding unit, Ambulance 3-3-8, was advised that SCPD was on scene confirming the pin and requesting a rush on rescue. Once on scene they encountered a single vehicle involved, which had extensive damage due to crashing into a utility pole and landing on a snow embankment. While crews assessed the victim Squad 3-3-5 arrived shortly after, putting their tools to work. Due to the patients injuries ALS was established on scene by Rescue Captain Perez along with SCPD COPE Unit. Firefighters and SCPD ESU worked together to remove doors, peel the roof and cut the steering wheel to free the victim. Engine 3-3-3 took care of traffic and stood by for the helicopter landing at headquarters. The patient was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for his injuries. East Brentwood Fire Department responded to a reported heavy rescue in the evening hours on Saturday February 28, 2015. Upon arrival, 1st Assistant Chief Juan Rivadeneyra and 2nd Assistant Chief Erik Vasquez stated that the driver of the vehicle had exited the vehicle and was transported into ambulance 3-3-8 to Southside Hospital. The crew of 3-3-5 took caution on the icy Fulton Street as they secured the vehicle. SCPD's ESU pulled the vehicle upright which was later towed.
On February 26th at 1230 hours the East Brentwood Fire Department was activated for a structure fire at 1126 Suffolk Ave. 2nd Assistant Chief Erik Vasquez was the first on scene and transmitted a working fire as he established command. The crew of engine 3-3-1 arrived within minutes and quickly deployed a 2 1/2" line to exposure 1 of the two-story commercial structure which housed various businesses. Chief of Department Nick Grammenos arrived shortly after assuming the role of command. Crews inside encountered three 20-lb propane tanks, sulfuric acid around the rear of the building belonging to a cesspool company and miscellaneous chemicals, which prompted the request of the Town of Islip Hazmat team. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by Brentwood, Central Islip, Bay Shore, Islip Terrace and Commack Fire Departments. Mutual aid response by Central Islip-Hauppauge, Brentwood Legion and Commack Ambulance Companies. Hauppauge FD and Exchange Ambulance Company provided stand-by coverage for the district. The fire, which originated in the "Smart Hookah Store", was quickly knocked down with minor damages to adjacent businesses. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad. No injuries were reported. Fire was under control at 0133 hours.
