East Brentwood Fire Department responded to a reported heavy rescue in the evening hours on Saturday February 28, 2015. Upon arrival, 1st Assistant Chief Juan Rivadeneyra and 2nd Assistant Chief Erik Vasquez stated that the driver of the vehicle had exited the vehicle and was transported into ambulance 3-3-8 to Southside Hospital. The crew of 3-3-5 took caution on the icy Fulton Street as they secured the vehicle. SCPD's ESU pulled the vehicle upright which was later towed.
On February 26th at 1230 hours the East Brentwood Fire Department was activated for a structure fire at 1126 Suffolk Ave. 2nd Assistant Chief Erik Vasquez was the first on scene and transmitted a working fire as he established command. The crew of engine 3-3-1 arrived within minutes and quickly deployed a 2 1/2" line to exposure 1 of the two-story commercial structure which housed various businesses. Chief of Department Nick Grammenos arrived shortly after assuming the role of command. Crews inside encountered three 20-lb propane tanks, sulfuric acid around the rear of the building belonging to a cesspool company and miscellaneous chemicals, which prompted the request of the Town of Islip Hazmat team. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by Brentwood, Central Islip, Bay Shore, Islip Terrace and Commack Fire Departments. Mutual aid response by Central Islip-Hauppauge, Brentwood Legion and Commack Ambulance Companies. Hauppauge FD and Exchange Ambulance Company provided stand-by coverage for the district. The fire, which originated in the "Smart Hookah Store", was quickly knocked down with minor damages to adjacent businesses. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad. No injuries were reported. Fire was under control at 0133 hours. |
